I was born in London and studied Fine Art with Art History at Newcastle University where my work focused largely on abstraction and mark making and a disciplined approach to life drawing. Art History played an important part of the course, particularly the study of Renaissance Italian and Northern painting. I went on to study West African Art, Material Culture and Anthropology at The Centre for West African Studies, Birmingham University.
My earlier work consisted of abstract or semi abstract landscapes and tree drawings using charcoal and graphite.  My East African drawings were largely recordings of the stunning landscapes and forests of Western Kenya and Kakamega.  More recently I have begun to work in oils, again largely based on landscape. I am interested in playing with the structure of trees, surfaces, patterns and textures.  A loose interpretation, with a limited palette, based on direct and indirect observation and an exploration of media. More recent works are drawn from the woodlands on Dartmoor, Devon and in Shropshire where I currently live.
